Why am I talking to you?

Have you ever been mid-conversation with someone and you think, I don't value your opinion...I don't even know why I'm talking to you! A couple days ago, I was talking with someone and we got on a topic that we did not see eye to eye on. And during this conversation I was like, I'm out! I'm done with this discussion! NO MAS!
Truthfully, everyone bases their thoughts and opinions on their own value system. It's not a discussion of what's right for you is not always right for me, I firmly believe in absolute Truth. Yet, not everyone places the same value on such Truth. It's tough to keep your conversations limited to people you will always agree with, and where is the fun in that anyway? However, I'm learning in my old age about the importance of keeping my cards close to my chest and valuing only select people's judgement and opinions. And might I say, it's a tough lesson to learn.

A blog like this begs the question, "So what were you talking about?"; now my curiosity is really peaked. .

This happens to me ALL THE TIME, scouts honor! In my younger, more reckless days, I used to actually attempt to have thoughtful discussions on said matter (‘no, I don’t think it’s a good idea to pump large quantities of chlorine into the ocean in order to *clean it up*…) - but more often than not, instead of leading into an engaging conversation, it would just devolve into a standoff of wills (‘Well, actually, yeah – I do think it’s criminal of you to have not paid your taxes for the last 6 years…’). Eventually, I grew tired of this repeated pattern of conversation deadlock (why again am I talking with you about your moronic views on ‘fill in the blank’) and I became very selective with whom I would actually converse with beyond the usual meet and greet, weather, and oh-I see you broke your neck mantras. I’ve found it keeps me a bit saner by not forcing repeated interactions with depraved members of this little thing we like to call a society. :)

Interesting blog here. Every semester I begin my classes with a distinctly institutional discussion on why here, why BC. I move to the board and write a capital "T" in the middle. I then turn to my students and ask them why did you choose BC, why here. For the next 50 minutes we have a thoughtful discussion about absolute Truth versus little truth, Grand Narrative versus local narratives, God's Word versus any other "word" they come across. I am always dazzled by the meaningful discussions we have, uncovering the uniqueness of our institution--the wonderful activity when Christians are able to integrate their particular worldview into any topic or discipline. Kudos, Cindy, for taking a stand, recognizing that knowing Truth and when to share it is an important part of Wisdom. Cheering from the cheap seats.

Cindy, This is just for you.
Life is so full of problems
Things seldom do go our way,
People, they discourage us,
The things they do and say,
when things begin to bother us
The best thing we can do is pray.

Situations they keep on coming
they seem larger every day.
What ever we do to solve them,
we find they are here to stay.
Wet us never become discouraged, thebest we can do is pray.
Love you Gr.

Can I risk a motherly comment here? If I can, I would say, "Wow, what an amazing daughter I have." But since I'm not sure I can put such a thing on this blog at this time in this way, I'll just settle for saying, "Kudos" in a most just-a-reader-adding-a-comment way. Kudos!
